FAIRTRADE |
At Bio Energy Utilities we believe that fair trade should form the basis of doing business. However, we also feel that fair trade itself is not always enough: whenever possible, it should be combined with fair practice . The difference between these two methodologies is significant.
More than fair trade
Fair trade involves giving suppliers a fair bargain, usually together with a guaranteed minimum price for their products. Cooperation can, and we believe should, cover more than this trading alone. Fair practice additionally implies exchange of knowledge, ideas and respect between all parties. For instance, farmers should be informed of the impact of their practices on the environment and be educated in more efficient and sustainable agricultural techniques. At the same time, buyers of their products must respect the local customs, culture and way of life.
